Lovers of bicycles and Tuscany, Val d’Orcia is the destination for you!
These lands are synonymous with beauty, slow itineraries, immersed in nature to be enjoyed by pedaling at a slow pace. Discover the Val d’Orcia in a gentle and slow way and you will appreciate every corner, every hill, every village you will see … and every now and then take the opportunity to make some nice stops with a tasting or aperitif! For cyclists and amateurs, this land contains itineraries for all levels! discover our bike rentals, where you can rent a mountain bike or e-bike with pedal assistance, and go on an adventure!

Duration 1h40

Route length 18 km

Difference in altitude 500m

Difficulty medium

Among the vineyards of Brunello di Montalcino

The route from Sant’Antimo and Montalcino round trip is a truly suggestive itinerary. A journey through the vineyards where the Brunello that has made this land famous all over the world is produced. This itinerary presents a rather demanding initial climb and a return downhill among the large vineyards, it is pleasant for an average trained person. However with an e-bike it is accessible to anyone who wants to enjoy these beautiful landscapes. It starts from Castelnuovo dell’Abate: you can decide whether to visit the splendid Abbey of Sant’Antimo at the beginning or at the end of the itinerary but you certainly can’t miss it. Sant’Antimo is a monastic complex completely surrounded by greenery, a place of meditation and retreat where you can disconnect from the frenetic pace and re-embrace the slow pace of nature.

The itinerary starts by immediately taking the dirt road that leads to Sant’Angelo in Colle with a continuous ups and downs; after 7 km you will reach the asphalted road and continue turning left. From here continue uphill reaching, after about 5 km, the Passo del Lume Spento. Continue descending towards Montalcino, and once you reach the capital of Brunello it will be a beautiful long ride downhill for 9 km that will take you back to the Abbey of Sant’Antimo.

The itinerary is of medium difficulty and requires scarce two hours: so take the opportunity to visit both the Abbey and the splendid Montalcino, rich in history, monuments and … one of the most renowned wines in the world, Brunello di Montalcino!

Castiglione d’Orcia is located on the northern slopes of Monte Amiata, the highest mountain in Tuscany. The departure from the village of Castiglione d’Orcia will give you great emotions: you cannot fail to visit this imposing tower that overlooks the adjacent village of Rocca d’Orcia and stands out over the entire valley. Climb the Rocca, enjoy the view and then to reach Montalcino you can do so by taking:

the SP 323, SR 2 and SP 14 towards San Quirico d’Orcia

the SP 323, SS323 and the SP 5 in the direction of the Abbey of Sant’Antimo

Certainly being a circular route it is worth choosing an option for the outward and one for the return to be able to visit all the beauties that this landscape offers us.

Distance: 46 km
Duration: 3h 20 min
Difficulty: medium – high

For example, start the morning choice as going to the Abbey of Sant’Antimo: take the SP 323, the SS323 and take a nice ride to the Abbey of Sant’Antimo. Take advantage of nature to rest around and meditate in this stupendous abbey: then leave again facing the climb that will leave you again up to the village of Montalcino.
A village that has remained intact since the 16th century, Montalcino will show itself to your eyes in all its beauty: among hills full of vines and olive groves and flowers, here is this fortified village, famous for the most famous Italian wine, Brunello di Montalcino, but not only ! Here you will find churches, museums and many beautiful buildings to visit, without forgetting a stop in some cellar for a nice Brunello tasting! It is worth a visit and a climb up the tower of the mighty Rocca Senese, from which you will have another superlative panoramic glimpse!

Lovers of bicycles and Tuscany, Val d’Orcia is the destination for you!
These lands are synonymous with beauty, slow itineraries, immersed in nature to be enjoyed by pedaling at a slow pace. Discover Val d’Orcia in a gentle and slow way and you will appreciate every corner, every hill, every village you see … and every now and then take the opportunity to make some nice stops with a tasting or aperitif! For cyclists and amateurs, this land contains itineraries for all levels! discover our bike rentals, where you can rent a mountain bike or an e-bike with pedal assistance, and go on an adventure!

Duration 4h 30 minutes

Route length 50 km

High difficulty

This is a demanding itinerary for trained cyclists. A path with a great difference in height but that will pay off. The effort with breathtaking views of the typical landscape of the Val d’Orcia, between cultivated fields and medieval fortresses

The departure from the village of Castiglione d’Orcia will give you great emotions: you cannot fail to visit this imposing tower that overlooks the adjacent village of Rocca d’Orcia and stands out over the entire valley.
We want you to climb the Rocca and enjoy the view but we already warn you that the photos will not be able to do justice to such beauty: here you can enjoy a few hours of relaxation before resuming SR 2 in the direction of Radicofani, before resuming the SR 2 in the direction of Radicofani, and turn onto the SP 478, where the most difficult climb awaits you. Radicofani is in fact located at about 800 meters above sea level. Once you arrive in Radicofani, your gaze can range from Monte Amiata to Lake Bolsena and Trasimeno. Here the tower of the fortress of Radicofani dominates, historically the figure of a Tuscan Robin Hood who took refuge here in 1297.
Between the stone houses and the narrow streets, don’t forget to visit the beautiful Radicofani. But if you just want to rest, perhaps in the shade of a beautiful grove, find shelter in Bosco Isabella, a fascinating garden defined as “romantic and esoteric”.
