Art, culture and local products await you in Contignano. This precious village is a fraction of the municipality of Radicofani, formed by the Castle and the village outside the walls. The medieval castle maintains two access gates, one next to the keep, an ancient keep, and the other along the north walls, called Porticciola.

Here, among the scents and colors of its landscape, you will find real food and wine excellences such as sheep “cacio”, red wine Orcia DOC, and quality EVO oil. To visit you will find a beautiful fifteenth-century noble palace of the Bandinelli family, on which stands the Cassero tower. Enter Contignano through the two main streets that lead to a beautiful square with a well, and arrive as far as the Church of S. Maria Assunta. Here the Val d’Orcia will envelop you with all its colors, and you can also visit the Chapel of S. Rocco.

In August, do not miss the appointment with the ravioli (an italian typical type of pasta) festival, an unmissable date for the sweet tooth and the most gourmets!

San Quirico d’Orcia is a delightful small Tuscan village that we absolutely recommend you visit. An ideal point to visit Pienza, Bagno Vignoni and Montalcino, San Quirico d ‘Orcia is a delightful village located in the heart of the Val d’Orcia.
An important stop along the Via Francigena, this village still shows its medieval structure, surrounded by the ancient city walls. From here you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Val d’Orcia and Mount Amiata.
Here you will be spoiled for choice of monuments to visit: you can start by visiting the splendid Horti Leonini, a perfect example of the classic Italian garden. Here in the center of the green labyrinth stands the beautiful statue of Cosimo III de ‘Medici; continuing along the characteristic streets of the town, you can reach the remains of the Torre del Cassero, an ancient tower almost 40 meters high which was destroyed during the Second World War. Strolling along the streets of the village you will find numerous shops selling typical products and crafts and excellent restaurants.

Montalcino is a must for those who want to visit the Val d’Orcia! This is the homeland of the famous Brunello di Montalcino wine, one of the most famous and well-known wines in the world. You cannot fail to indulge in a nice tasting in one of the many wineries in the area! To the south of Monte Amiata, expanses and expanses of vineyards grow that surround the fairytale medieval village, surrounded by an ancient castle and a large and mighty wall.
A village with a great history, Montalcino derives from Mons Ilcinus, or the mount of holm oaks (in fact, the inhabitants of Montalcino are called ilcinesi). Walking through the vineyards that lead to the enchanting village, your attention will be immediately captured by the mighty fortress, a pentagonal castle site of important events such as the Jazz & Wine Festival. A festival animated by music, theater, dance and of course Brunello tastings that will take place in the Enoteca della Fortezza.

When visiting the Val d’Orcia you cannot miss Monticchiello, a small medieval village off the beaten track that has still managed to preserve its authentic beauty. Immersed in the Sienese countryside, in this village you will find a more medieval and austere architectural style compared to the Renaissance scenario of the city of Pienza.

In fact, characteristic features of Monticchiello are the sturdy walls and the keep tower that stands out on the hill. Surely the best way to visit the small village is to aimlessly explore the narrow streets of the town, discovering picturesque and enchanting views at every turn, perfect for photography enthusiasts and romantics. Speaking of photography, here you will find one of the most photographed locations in the Val d’Orcia, now an iconic symbol of Tuscany: the famous curves of Monticchiello! Among the rolling hills, winding roads wind their way surrounded by cypresses, offering unforgettable views.

In Monticchiello you will enjoy the superb panoramic view over the entire Val d’Orcia: stop in one of the superb restaurants in the village and then set off again to visit the keep and the city walls, where you can still see some intact towers. Finally, the only door in the town with a beautiful arch will lead you to the Church of Saints Leonardo and Cristoforo.
Undoubtedly the most notable monument in Monticchiello, the Church has a T-shaped plan and is dedicated to San Leonardo di Limoges. The Church is also enriched by a great pictorial masterpiece placed in the right chapel of the transept: the Madonna and Child by Pietro Lorenzetti.
